One of the best perks of being a horse owner is the community that comes with it.

There’s a special bond between horse people—an unspoken respect. Who else could understand the adventurous rush that riding affords? Who else could appreciate the blood, sweat and tears you put into practicing in the ring? Who else could share your fondness for that horsey aroma or forgive you for always smelling like the barn?

At Cottonwood, we work hard to create a fun and welcoming atmosphere that encourages our riders to forge friendships and create lasting memories together. We love to see these interactions on a daily basis, and we also enjoy bringing everyone together for special events on site.

But we also enjoy participating in events and shows at other clubs and facilities around the state. There are so many cool events happening right now—and what better time to get out, make friends and show off our horses’ talents than this beautiful Colorado summer?

Show season is in full swing. We just got back from a successful week of showing in Estes Park and there are lots more Denver-area shows coming up.

For example, the Colorado Horse Park in Parker will be hosting several dressage, eventing and hunter/jumper shows through August and September, so check out their site for more info. We always enjoy the Arapahoe Hunt Pace, which is on Sept. 20 this year. (Cottonwood folks will be going—ask around if you want to find a team!)

For the Quarter Horse lovers among us, the Rocky Mountain Quarter Horse Association will host its Fall Classic & Futurities in Denver Sept. 11-14, with showing opportunities for both Western and English riders. And there’s the Colorado Fall Charity Horse Show Sept. 5-7, featuring classes for Arabians, Saddlebreds, Morgans and open classes.

At home this summer, we’ve already enjoyed several great events: a dressage show, cross-country clinics, pony camps and a hunter/jumper show. And just around the corner in August, more showing, a massage clinic and our annual PENTATHLON!

Pentathlon just might be our favorite event of the entire year, and it’s coming up on Aug. 30. If you’ve never participated in the famous Cottonwood Pentathlon, it’s not too late! You still have time to pull together a team to compete in this amazing combination of trail riding, polo, dressage, jumping and barrel racing events that benefits charity. It is not to be missed.
